The Faith In Politics Podcast

Faith In Politics dusts your Civics hat off and empowers you with New Orleans civic information with a flair of faith. Let’s question the status quo, dig a little deeper to find the truth and rebuild our Faith In Politics while looking through a lens of morals and values. Do we remember those? Too many have lost their Faith In Politics and don’t participate in our civic process unfortunately. Let’s educate ourselves, share viable solutions, speak truth to power, create effective change and pray together. The people have the power yet somehow we forgot. When we are confident in our facts, engaged in the process, we stand on those facts and require accountability from our elected leaders. Yet if we don’t know the game, how can we referee from a far? While working the recall for 7 months, I listened to many residents and learned a lot about what residents actually know and while working 3 years in city communications, I learned a lot about what residents think they know. Residents need to do our own digging because even our news can be skewed at times. I’m a registered Independent so I’m coming from a purple point of view - no red or blue - JUST PEOPLE and FACTS. So between the New Orleans Civics 101 facts you didn’t know you needed (offered by email or text notifications) to solution based online group chats or in person brainstorming - Lets’ work together to rebuild our Faith In Politics while loving our neighbor. When I grew up in New Orleans, we felt like a family of neighborhoods. Katrina and Ida did a two-step on us and we have been resilient. Yet it’s time for New Orleans second line into THRIVING not just surviving. FIP Lagniappe Fact: Did you know New Orleans has a strong-mayor system of government? Well, WE DO! If you don’t know what that means, you definitely need to tap in with Faith In Politics Today by signing up for our weekly emails or texts. We are all in this together... Episode 28: Engagement can root out corruption: Bill of Rights
Tuesday Apr 01, 2025
Tuesday Apr 01, 2025
Unfortunately, the state of New Orleans is no April Fools' joke! The city is past the tipping point and it's going to take all hands on deck to right this ship! I was scouring the news this week and found two articles, one that encouraged me and one that floored me. One is by the Tulane Hullabaloo and one is by WWNO respectively. The Tulane article is read in full below. It surmises that civic engagement can root out corruption. (Oh, so that's why some like division and information hoarding - I digress) The WWNO article summarizes an audit of the city's homeless efforts: I'll make it short for you. $216.3 MILLION spent from 2019 - 2024 with an increase in homelessness. I linked the article because it really is a must read because - WHAT?!?
Today at noon, I discuss both of these and breakdown our New Orleans Bill Of Rights. Did you know we had one? Well, we do. Let's review it together and see if New Orleanians are living their best life or do we already know the answer?

Episode 26: New Orleans: Executive & Legislative Branches
Tuesday Mar 18, 2025
Tuesday Mar 18, 2025
The mayor-council system is a common form of governance in cities across the united states, and it is the structure adopted by New Orleans. In this system, there is a clear separation between the executive and legislative branches, with each branch having distinct roles and powers.
The mayor: as the city's chief executive, the mayor is responsible for overseeing the administration and management of the city government. The mayor's role is laid out in the city charter, which grants the office the power to implement and enforce city laws, propose policies, manage municipal services, and direct the city's budget. The mayor has a wide range of authority, from appointing department heads to executing programs and initiatives that align with the city's strategic goals.
The City Council: The City Council serves as the legislative body of New Orleans. It is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and passing local ordinances (laws), resolutions, and the budget. The City Council represents the interests of New Orleans residents by ensuring that the city government works effectively and transparently. The Council also serves as a check on the Mayor’s power, ensuring accountability and transparency in how the executive branch operates.

Your Host
Eileen Carter began a radio show in 2013 on WBOK called the Good Life. In 2017, she left on a hiatus & became the 1st social media manager of New Orleans (2018-2021) & then the Lord called her number. Life definitely changed as she accepted her calling. When you are called, you are called. And those that know, know & the call to speak up is back. So "Faith in Politics" is birthed, ten years later in 2023. Eileen grew up in a very Catholic political family in New Orleans that had relationships in the DNC from the local to the national level & she always just followed along. Well, when you mix community activism with the Holy Spirit, you get more than what you bargained. Don't try to box her in, it doesn't work anymore. She left the Catholic faith in 2015 and was saved and baptized and recently left the Democratic Party. Eileen is a registered Independent & a Christian Believer in Jesus Christ. Break out of what you thought you knew like she did. If you want to support $FaithInPolitics
